Energy Insider: Training Room
New online training available in condensed format
by John Ferrare, Enerdynamics CEO
Enerdynamics has been producing online training for over a decade, and the evolution of this medium has been fascinating to watch. First there was an instructor lecturing to powerpoints. While this did offer the convenience of wherever, whenever, it was also arguably more boring than actually sitting in a classroom. Then there was a move to minimal animation, and possibly a professional narrator. Fast forward to today and the sky’s the limit, with amazing technological advances and the opportunity to learn just about anything online.
But there really has always been a recurring request: shorter, shorter, shorter. I often wonder where this will end. But in answer to these cries, we have started to create condensed versions of some of our most popular learning paths. We started with Electric Industry Overview and Gas Industry Overview, each taking about 4 ½ hours to complete. We use a platform called Rise, which allows us to create interactive lessons that condense a module down to ten minutes, and an entire learning path down to an hour or so. The result is visually pleasing and we are able to maintain interactivity and interest. And each module ends with a short assessment.
Feedback so far has been great. And it appears the market for these industry intros may even exceed the market for their full-length cousins. If all goes well, we hope to soon have condensed versions of all of our courses and learning paths. And for those who think even ten minutes is too much, stay tuned for news on our Energy KnowledgeBase online encyclopedia in the next Training Room!
