Are Your Learners Tired of the Desktop? How to Deliver the Right Content to the Right Device

Multiple-device learning is a modern-day normality. Users of online training want to learn on their own time and on the device of their choosing. In many cases, learners want to start on one device and finish on another.

Let’s imagine a learner named Olivia. She needs to get her training done but never seems to have the time. She finally manages to log in to her required training using her desktop at work and finishes half of an hour-long course. But then Olivia’s phone rings, her boss walks in, and suddenly it is 5 p.m. She decides to forgo her usual post-work exercise class and instead goes home to finish her training. Olivia plans to use her tablet, but when she gets home, her son has claimed it for his homework. So, she finishes the coursework using her phone. Depending on the training assigned to Olivia, this is either no problem at all or may present a big challenge if she struggles to view tiny graphics designed for a desktop and not mobile-friendly.

To help you ensure that your work groups have a positive experience when in Olivia’s situation, Enerdynamics has developed a short online resource called “Right Content, Right Device.” It will help you determine what characteristics your training should include if you intend to support multiple-device learning. It also helps you identify situations when it is more appropriate to restrict users to specific device types. Issues the resource addresses include:

  • Why content needs to work on multiple devices
  • What responsive design is
  • What good mobile design is
  • The best use for each device
  • Resources to learn more
