This course focuses on the forces that drive supply and demand in electricity markets. The course begins with a look at electric demand for the various customer classes; how it varies daily and seasonally, how demand results in load profiles, and how it is modeled by system planners. The focus of the course then shifts to the supply available to meet demand. The various generation sources are discussed, including their operational costs and other characteristics that affect how supply is scheduled, as well as how these characteristics result in the generation dispatch stack that defines how generation resources are used under various load conditions.
